Ever since its pilot episode in October of 2013, The Wolf Among Us has managed to make fans of the “Fable” universe enjoy their game on a home console. The first episode was perhaps a master piece employing the classic noire-esque storytelling style of bad guy meets beautiful damsel in need of assistance and the both of them go on a hunt for justice, while the end maybe less than a story book ending episode 2 is more so action packed and doesn’t hold back any punches.

Story

The Wolf Among Us Episode 2 is something that has truly shaken the gaming world, picking up where the first episode ended (Don’t worry, no spoilers) Bigby is now more hell bent than ever to solving the mystery that is steadily making the citizens of his town worry about their personal safety after a serial killer has been established and a suspect has been apprehended.

The game even has an absolutely amazing start to Bigby interrogating his suspect, how you carry out your investigation might just carry more implications than you can think so before you become Trevor in the “By the Book” mission in Grand Theft Auto 5 you should really take a look at your morality compass, weigh your options carefully and tread carefully. After the interrogation you are immediately given a plot twist that will leave your jaw on the floor and once you proceed to pick it up again the story continues to get more intriguing and later on in the story you meet some more despicable characters as well as revisit past acquaintances from the previous episode and your confrontation on these revisits might just give you a chance to redeem yourself for past mistakes made to the people you affected.

There are a lot of great moments including the scene that has been really advertised to no end, the epic fight between Bigby and Beast, depending on your actions in the previous episode and how you handle his situation pertaining to Beauty, you will definitely be in for the fairy tale fight of your life! The revelation thrust upon you at the end of your episode will definitely make you flip a table because there is no way anyone saw that coming! The new episode may not be as impacting as the pilot episode but that’s just how the progression for the series works, but this episode has definitely helped build a significant amount of momentum for the next episode.

This episode has played a strong role towards Bigby’s development as a protagonist in the future episodes, the way you handle dangerous and volatile situations and the weighting choices you make can significantly affect how the people you are protecting see you, do they see you as their hero in their time of need or an old dog who really hasn’t learned any new tricks.

Graphics

The game is still the same as before, though some of the locations you do visit really do come to life at certain points and this helps in the immersion as you play the game. Telltale and their trademark cell shading techniques really give new life to the games that truly deserve them and thankfully the engine continues to be as stable and offers minimal intervals of audio and visual stutters, hopefully this will be ironed out by the next episode.

Audio

When we talk about audio for a game like this the most important things I look forward to are the soundtrack playing in the heavy moments of the game and the voice acting. Both have truly been given the red carpet treatment and I can easily say that the trouble of setting up to a 7.1 system just to replay the episode made the effort worth all the while to explore my alternate save! Each audio aspect was truly marvelous and the soundtracks continues to pull you into the game without you even knowing it and soon you completely forget about the world around you solely because of the spectacular sound engine.

The voice acting in some moments of the game are truly noteworthy and really help deliver how the NPC’s react to Bigby’s

Gameplay

Pretty much similar to the previous game, you have a reticule that helps you navigate Bigby, interact with the environment and helps you in solving mysteries, fights and other troubles that our sleuth will eventually come across, these are both welcome additions to the franchise for me and their utilization in the Walking Dead Season 2 truly helps deliver a more enigmatic experience to help deliver a completely new method of interaction between the player and the Big Bad Wolf on the screen, especially when it comes down to brass tacks between two ferocious animals at each others throats.

Conclusion

As always, the choices you make are more imperative than ever, so choose carefully and weigh your options so that you don’t end up making a mistake you will end up regretting in a later episode, the episode builds up to a strong yet powerful climactic finish, one that you will definitely want to reload a previous save for an explore the road less traveled, This episode may have been months in the making but everyday was well worth the anticipation to lead to such an amazing cliffhanger until the next episode surfaces (which hopefully won’t be in another 5 months).

It is still very amazing that TellTaleGames finds time to blow us away with The Wolf Among Us and still manage to make The Walking Dead something that might just make records again, but it seems that TellTaleGames might have a competitor for GOTY against their own title this year, because between the both of them I am really at a cross roads on which season will be my new favorite this year! Now we wait for the next episode of The Walking Dead Season 2 and see how that fares up.
